A new collective volume has just been released: Droit et systèmes alimentaires sains et durables. (Law and healthy and sustainable food systems) , under the direction of Fabien Girard (Université Grenoble Alpes, IUF) and Élisabeth Lambert (CNRS).
The book brings together an interdisciplinary group of 14 authors to examine the role of law in the transformation of food systems, in the context of pressing climatic, nutritional, and ecological challenges.
I wrote Chapter 3, devoted to seeds, essential agricultural inputs. Long ignored by the law, they have now become the crossroads of multiple and often contradictory regimes: protection of innovation, international trade, plant health, conservation of biodiversity, recognition of farmers' rights. My chapter offered an educational reading of this legal mosaic, providing keys to understanding how these regimes intersect and sometimes conflict.
I then put forward the concept of seed security as an integrative framework, with the aim of imagining framework laws capable of encompassing the diversity of seed systems and strengthening their role in the fight against climate change and in promoting sustainable food.
